The INCC investigates how the brain gives rise to the mind and behavior through a deeply integrative and multi-level approach. Our research spans from molecular and cellular mechanisms to neuronal interactions, and up to system-level dynamics and cognitive functions. We combine experimental and theoretical perspectives to study how integrative brain activity supports perception, learning, memory, language, and emotion—across both typical and atypical trajectories.

Our work addresses key questions about how humans perceive and interact with their environment, how cognition and language emerge and develop from infancy to adulthood, and how these processes adapt—or fail to adapt—over time. Many projects involve close collaborations with hospitals and clinical partners, allowing us to work with unique populations (e.g., newborns, patients with neurodevelopmental or psychiatric conditions). This enables us to bridge basic and applied research, contributing to novel diagnostic tools, therapeutic targets, and assistive technologies, such as brain-machine interfaces or adaptive rehabilitation systems.

INCC is a transdisciplinary research center that thrives on collaboration across scientific cultures. Researchers trained in cognitive science, neuroscience, theoretical modeling, biology, engineering, and clinical research work side by side. We all share a common commitment to question-driven research and to training the next generation of scientists in an open, collaborative, and innovative environment where disciplinary boundaries are constantly redefined.
