Depictions in cognition, communication, and development
Abstract Depictions are everywhere in human communication, ranging from static maps or diagrams to dynamic animations or puppet shows. Yet, despite their ubiquity, they are often overlooked in accounts of human cognition. I will introduce the cognitive account I have developed to investigate depictions, present evidence supporting it from several studies on infants and adults, then lay out the open research questions I plan to address in future work.
