Understanding neural and behavioral entrainment under challenge

Summary
Our ability to understand and interact with the auditory world is supported by synchronization between neural and environmental rhythms – entrainment. My research group is focused on understanding the situations in which entrainment fails, leading to failures in auditory perception. To do so, we develop paradigms that challenge listeners in different ways so that we can better understand the limits on entrainment and the factors that contribute to those limits. In this talk, I’ll give a tour of some of our recent work examining entrainment in younger and older adults, across a range of stimulus rates, and when auditory rhythms have to compete with electrical rhythms applied using noninvasive brain stimulation.

Short Biography
Molly Henry : I am a Max Planck Research Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt and an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Toronto Metropolitan University in Toronto. I received my PhD from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and completed postdocs at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig and Western University in London, Canada.
